Notes on Casey Desmond and the Milky Way Lounge & Lanes
By JIM SULLIVAN | November 27, 2007
The MILKY WAY LOUNGE & LANES lives. The hip Jamaica Plain club was shut for three nights over a sprinkler-installation imbroglio with the Boston Fire Department, but now it’s back to its regular schedule. “We met the requirements by the Fire Department,” said co-owner Kathie Mainzer, “and were given an extension. We’re open while we’re installing the sprinklers.” The Milky Way has a lease through August 31, 2008.Cruising the Boston Music Awards Nomination Party November 15 at the Hard Rock Café, singer-songwriter CASEY DESMOND said she’s recording her third CD with producer/Berklee grad Anthony Resta at his Studio Bopnique Musique in Chelmsford. Desmond, daughter of the Bentmen’s Dez, plays the Paradise Lounge December 13 and hopes to release the disc in the first half of 2008. The latest to join the BMA show December 1 at the Orpheum are EXTREME and Godsmack’s SULLY ERNA.
December 1 is a busy night elsewhere, too. CHRIS TRAPPER, singer/guitarist of the Push Stars, plays an acoustic holiday show at the Brattle Theatre. He’ll be doing songs from his new, all-originals CD, It’s Christmas Time, as well as traditional tunes. Of note: “This Time,” the themesong to the just-opened August Rush, was written by Trapper and is sung by the film’s star, Jonathan Rhys Meyer. Down at the Carriage House in Groton, meanwhile, guitarist Jay Geils will get a proclamation during a concert by JAY GEILS, GERRY BEAUDOIN AND THE KINGS OF STRINGS. The town has proclaimed it “Jay Geils Day.” And at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston, WILDZERO celebrate the release of their new EP, II, with support from GODDESS OF MY RELIGION, whose line-up features Damone singer Noelle. II was the last disc recorded at New Alliance’s Boylston street venue before it relocated to Central Square. Goddess plan a spring 2008 release for their new CD.
