The remaining eight comprise two pretty incredible shows that will no doubt pack TT's later this week: Semifinal Night 1 (Thursday, April 14) features Mellow Bravo, Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, Sidewalk Driver and wild card Spirit Kid. The back-end in scheduling terms only, Night 2 (Friday, April 15) offers Walter Sickert and his crooked clan, Jenny Dee and hers (as straight as Sickert's is bent), John Powhida International Airport and the second wild card, Black Thai. Those are two motherfucking stacked lineups.

So, sure, in the name of the Rumble game three will move on, and a "crown" will be awarded at the April 22 final (word on the street says it's Sidewalk Driver's to Rumble lose, though this writer still can't get over Mellow Bravo's beer-drunk determination to kick ass).

But after an incredibly successful and varied week of Boston rock, with three cheers and a cocktail raised toward organizer Anngelle Wood, it's impossible to say anyone lost anything.

At the end of the day, some bands just got to play more.

"If you'd told me 10 years ago I'd be here playing with Buffalo Tom, I wouldn't have believed you," Mean Creek's Aurore Ounjian sheepishly offered up last week at ZuZu, moments before her band closed out a stripped-down, five-song set with a cover of Buffalo Tom's "Would Not Be Denied."
