Karen Schmeer memorial
There will be a memorial tomorrow at Boston University for Karen Schmeer, the great
local film editor who died tragically last January just
shy of her 40th birthday.
It takes place in Room 101, the BU College of Communication,
640 Commonwealth Avenue,
Boston, starting a 6 p.m. with
a gathering of friends and family. At
6:30 p.m. people will share their memories of Karen, and at 7:30 p.m. there will be a screening of Karen's last project, the
HBO movie "Sergio," a documentary about United
Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Sergio Vieira de Mello, who was
killed in a terrorist bomb explosion at the UN headquarters in Bagdad in 2003.
The director of "Sergio," Greg Barker, will introduce and conduct a discussion about the film, for
which Karen won the Best Editing Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
Also, kudos to the Independent Film Festival of Boston, which
this year has instituted the Karen Schmeer Award for Best Editing.
