Meet the Mayor: Oberon
Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.
Oberon

I've been
to rock shows at Oberon, but I believe they usually do other things . . . ?
Yeah, it depends. They have a lot of really cool people
booking. My favorite thing to see there is TraniWreck, this alt-drag
extravaganza and performance-art night that happens once a month. But I also go
for ART shows, stand-up, and I think I've seen one rock show there. It's a
versatile room for upscale freaky people - definitely not, like, Theater
District theater types.
If Oberon
launches a new marketing campaign, the slogan should be, "for upscale freaky
people."
Maybe I think it's more upscale than it is, but it's
bridging the gap between - I'm trying to think of where you might see
burlesque, or something - Great Scott and the Beehive. The Beehive might have
more straitlaced people. There's more purple hair in the Oberon audience.
Do you
think Joe Don Baker would have fun at Oberon?
Who's that?
He was a
comedy-sidekick-type dude in a couple of Bond movies.
If he was a comedy sidekick, he'd probably get a big
kick out of Oberon.
What new
law would you enforce, if you became a fascist mayor?
Everyone must wear glitter.
