Inimitable Maine dada-noise artist CRANK STURGEON comes to town this Saturday for a show at the semi-regular Open Sound experimental-music series at Third Life Studios. Crank’s performances are nothing if not memorable events, filled with costumes and contact mics and all manner of strange devices that will boggle your mind and ears both.

It's week two of an influx of Providence's most spellbinding performers gracing our ears with a show of tricked-out organs and infinite drones. MUDBOY (a/k/a Raphael Lyon) is a veteran of the legendary Fort Thunder noise-art scene. Known for his theatrical performances, Lyon combines found sounds and modified keyboards to create what's sometimes called "fantasy noise."

It’s a record-release party of epic proportions this Sunday at Great Scott. Local sound artist BRENDAN MURRAY follows up last year’s acclaimed long-form drone fest, Commonwealth, with an untitled album of shorter, more delicate pieces. Brooklynite Daniel Lopatin (a/k/a ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER) has a beautiful new vinyl record of drifting, kraut-synth inspired works called Betrayed in the Octagon

There’s a fine array of experimental- and electronic-music releases set to bloom this spring. Here are five choice examples:

LAWRENCE ENGLISH | A COLOUR FOR AUTUMN | 12k | This seasonal release on 12k is a bit out of sequence, but the hazy, sublime sounds of A Colour for Autumn are perfect listening any time of year. Australia’s Lawrence English, who runs the Room40 label, uses a delicate mix of field recordings, live instruments, and electronics to evoke the beautiful tension of a season that is somehow neither here nor there.
